
Watts in a home – Electric Dreams 2024


What is it? The Watts in A Home – Electric Dreams project, funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering Ingenious Fund, celebrates 100 years of women’s involvement in engineering and electrical power in the home, catalysed by the Electrical Association of Women which was formed in 1924.
Working with our regional clusters, cohorts of women engineers in Bristol, Newcastle, Cardiff, Milton Keynes, Belfast and Glasgow, are developing their public engagement and professional skills to prepare and deliver an electrifying, immersive public event at various visitor attractions around the UK. Watts in A Home – Electric Dreams 2024 celebrates 100 years of women’s involvement in engineering and power in the home, catalysed by the Electrical Association of Women which was formed in 1924.

MShed Bristol Saturday 31st May
“Get ready to spark your imagination!

Join us for a thrilling family fun day at the M Shed, Bristol, on Sat 31st May, where we’ll dive into the electrifying world of energy in the home! Discover the amazing story of the Electrical Association for Women and how they brought power to our lives. Women engineers, as part of a Royal Academy of Engineering Ingenious Funded project, will lead super-charged, hands-on activities that will have you buzzing with excitement!
There will be a walking tour exploring electricity in infrastructure, entertainment and education, walking up to the EAW branch meeting location at the top of Park Street. Highlights include a bascule bridge and a well-connected clock. The walk starts and ends at M Shed.
As well as the walking tour, don’t miss the fabulous performance by Angel Exit of ‘Watts in a Home 2:Then and Now’ at 12.30pm and 3.15pm. Join us on this electrifying adventure!”
