Mamta was born in the USA, has Indian parents and was educated in Scotland: she holds an affiliated degree in product design engineering from Glasgow University/Glasgow School of Art; an MSc in engineering management from Strathclyde University; and an MBA with distinction from Strathclyde International Business School. In 2004 she was a finalist for the UK’s Young Achiever Leadership and Diversity Awards and, since then, has used her position to empower women and BAME communities, and champion STEM. In 2007 she was the WES IET Young Women Engineer of the Year and in 2008 in the top 4 Globally for MBA Student of the Year. She has worked internationally for firms like Hasbro, Mattel, Mars Chocolate, Polaroid, Coca-Cola European Partners and Dyson.

Mamta sits on the IET Manufacturing Policy Panel and is on the Management Today’s Inspiring Women in Business Advisory board; moreover a recent Ambassador for Dyslexia Scotland. She is a force of reason with regards to equality, diversity and inclusion and is hugely passionate about women’s rights in business. She herself has seen many occasions where she has been viewed as a #hiddenfigure and is keen to redress the balance.

Serving two years on the Council for the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Mamta was also featured in Cosmopolitan as part of its award-winning Portrait of an Engineer campaign. Over the years she chaired engineering awards and mentored others in fulfilling their potential. A truly passionate person with regards to STE, she drives the connection between creativity, sustainable product development and engineering wherever possible. Mamta spent nine years in the international toy industry before moving into the food and drinks sector, working as a senior innovation and packaging scientist for the European branch of Mars Chocolate – she has a total of 18 years’ experience with roles in manufacturing, project management, engineering, quality, packaging development and sustainability. She currently works for Diageo PLC.
