Who Will You Recognise? WES Awards 2026 Nominations Are Now Open
Nominations for the 2026 WES Awards are now open until the 21st September, with the winners announced at the Caroline Haslett Lecture and Awards Ceremony in December.
We know that engineering is about more than innovative ideas, technical expertise and groundbreaking projects. It's about people. The mentor who encouraged someone to apply for professional registration. The volunteer who gives up evenings to support their local engineering community. The ally who speaks up when it matters. These are the people who make our profession stronger.
Every year, we celebrate those individuals through the WES Awards, recognising the people whose dedication, leadership and commitment are helping to shape a more inclusive and inspiring engineering profession.
Our Professional Registration Awards celebrate newly registered engineers and technicians whose commitment to excellence and professionalism is already making an impact. The Karen Burt Memorial Award recognises an outstanding newly Chartered Engineer, while the Best Newly Incorporated Engineer Award and Best Newly Registered Engineering Technician Award celebrate those who have demonstrated exceptional achievement at the beginning of their professional registration journey. Together, these awards highlight the value of professional registration, and the important contribution engineers and technicians make across every sector.
For others, their impact comes through inspiring those around them. The Amy Johnson Inspiration Award celebrates individuals working outside traditional engineering roles who are helping more women to enter and remain within engineering. Meanwhile, the Men as Allies Award recognises those who are actively helping to create a more inclusive profession by supporting colleagues, challenging barriers and championing positive change.
The WES Awards also celebrate the people who make our Society what it is. Through the Isabel Hardwich Medal and the Gillian Skinner Award, we recognise the extraordinary dedication of members and volunteers whose time, energy and commitment continue to strengthen WES and support engineers across the UK.
Although each award celebrates something different, they all have one thing in common: they recognise people whose actions make engineering better for everyone.
Perhaps someone encouraged you when you first entered the profession. Maybe you've worked alongside an engineer whose technical excellence deserves to be recognised. Or perhaps you know a volunteer, mentor or ally whose contribution often goes unnoticed.
