Stronger mentoring, stronger careers: introducing the new MentorSET platform
Behind every successful engineer are people who have offered guidance, encouragement and support along the way. Mentoring provides the opportunity to learn from someone else's experience, gain new perspectives and build confidence both personally and professionally.
Whether you're a student, an early career engineer, or an experienced professional, mentoring can provide valuable insight and practical advice. Equally, becoming a mentor is an opportunity to share your knowledge, develop your own coaching and leadership skills, and make a lasting difference to someone else's career.
MentorSET has helped create meaningful mentoring relationships across our community for many years. To ensure the programme continues to meet the evolving needs of our members, we've invested in a new, enhanced MentorSET platform that makes connecting together even easier. The response from members has already been incredibly positive, with mentor and mentee matches increasing by 50% since the new platform launched.
Why we've made this change
As our community has grown, so too have the expectations of what a mentoring platform should offer. Following a review by the WES Members Directors Committee, we made the decision to move to a new MentorSET platform that provides greater functionality while also delivering better long-term value for the Society. The result is a platform that offers a more intuitive experience and gives both mentors and mentees more ways to build successful mentoring relationships.
What's new?
The enhanced MentorSET platform includes a range of new features designed to make mentoring more flexible and accessible:
Connect with up to 20 mentors, allowing you to benefit from a wider range of experience and expertise.
Automatic mentor matching to help you find suitable mentoring connections more quickly.
Direct messaging within the platform, making communication simple and straightforward.
Integrated Microsoft Teams meeting scheduling, helping you arrange mentoring sessions with ease.
Training resources and guidance for both mentors and mentees.
Together, these improvements provide greater flexibility, richer mentoring opportunities and an improved experience for everyone taking part. The 50% increase in mentoring matches since launch demonstrates how these new features are already helping more members connect and build valuable professional relationships.
What this means for existing users
To ensure current mentoring relationships continue without interruption, the details of members actively using the previous MentorSET platform have been securely transferred to the new system.
