The WES Apprentice Board brings together apprentices from across engineering disciplines who want to influence WES’s work and strengthen support for women in technical and vocational pathways.
It provides a national forum for apprentices to share insight, shape initiatives and develop leadership experience early in their careers
Why it matters
Apprenticeships are a vital route into engineering, yet women remain under‑represented. The Apprentice Board helps:
Advise
Advising WES on issues affecting women apprentices through research and lived insights
Contribute
Contributing to national campaigns such as National Apprenticeship Week and Scottish Apprenticeship Week
Develop
Helping develop resources that support women in engineering apprenticeships and throughout their career

Members of the Apprentice Board work with WES to improve visibility, support and opportunities for women in engineering apprenticeships. Activities include:

The Apprentice Board is currently recruiting for new members and will be planning their priorities for the coming year including planning for the Careers event and Apprentice Week.
Who can join
The Apprentice Board is open to engineering apprentices who are interested in leadership, advocacy or shaping sector initiatives and keen to share their experience and help influence WES’s future work
No committee experience is needed — just commitment and curiosity.
