Emma Nicholson

Emma was elected to Associate Fellow by the WES Board in July 2020. Emma is an accomplished Chartered Senior Project Manager and Chartered Environmentalist with Board experience, and works as a Development Manager for SLC Rail. She has worked in Infrastructure and the Built Environment since 1998, and was a Finalist in 2018 for a Quality Excellence Award for the Leeds Art Gallery and Leeds Library roof restoration. In 2012 Emma worked as an Environmental Manager for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Emma has contributed strategic advice and committee work to the Institutes of IEMA (2013 – 2017) and the CIOB (2003 – 2013). She was Chair of The CIOB’s London Branch Sustainability Strategy Group for 3 years, and Regional Chair of IEMA Yorkshire & Humber for 4 years. As Founder of Women in Sustainable Construction and Property Linked-In with over 1000 members, Emma’s organised numerous industry events on healthy buildings, smart cities, diversity and innovation. She is a member of the CIOB’s Equality Diversity and Inclusion Panel and was a Finalist 2018 Regional STEM Leader of Yorkshire & Humber with Forward Ladies, and has been a STEM Ambassador since 2010.

Emma is a NED Board Director of the Yorkshire Collaborative Academy Trust for the improvement of 5 primary schools in Yorkshire and is a member of their Finance, Resources Audit and Risk Committee. Previously Emma was a Board Member of North Yorkshire Sport for 3.5 years. Emma’s profile published was in the CIOB’s international magazine: ‘Talent Publication: Ground Breaking Women of the CIOB in 2010’ and was acknowledged by IEMA as ‘Rising Stars of the Energy and Environment in 2012’. She’s been involved in industry government research for low carbon strategies for the CIOB and BIS.
