Legacy Page – the difference we make

The Difference we make

From the very beginning, WES was shaped by pioneers such as Caroline Haslett, Amy Johnson, and the other founder members who, in 1919, refused to accept that engineering was closed to women. Their courage and vision created a society that has championed inclusion for over a century. The legacy they began lives on in every award, mentoring scheme, and opportunity we provide today – proof that determined individuals can change the future for generations of women engineers.

We are constantly humbled by the generosity of our volunteers, members, partners, and sponsors. Your support ensures that WES can continue to champion women engineers, celebrate excellence, and provide opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. At a time when the cost‑of‑living crisis is placing new pressures on individuals and organisations alike, this support has never been more important. We are working hard to absorb as much of the financial impact as possible, keeping our awards free to enter and attend, so that recognition is based on achievement, not the means to pay.

We know not everyone is in a position to give, and we are deeply grateful to those who have contributed through membership, partnership, sponsorship, or donation. The stories you read on this page are possible because of you. Your generosity has created legacies, opened doors, and inspired future generations of women engineers.

As we look ahead, I hope we can continue to count on your support in these challenging times, and that the impact of these stories will inspire many others to follow. On behalf of everyone at WES, thank you. We are truly grateful.
