Job description:

The Analysis Services Team is divided into three sub-teams:

  1. Pre-construction wind – our pre-construction wind analysis team predicts the expected future long-term energy yield of proposed wind farms on behalf of project developers, financers or potential investors. The team also supports project developers throughout the development phase, providing ongoing technical advice, including feasibilities studies, optimized wind farm layouts and the specification of measurement campaigns.
  2. Operational wind – our operational wind analysis team supports wind farm operators, financers and potential investors of operational wind farms by assessing an asset’s historical performance, identifying opportunities for improvements and re-forecasting long-term energy yield predictions.
  3. Solar – our solar analysis team provides the same full range of pre-construction and operational services as the wind teams for clients developing, operating or transacting solar farms.

The three teams cooperate closely together to ensure that we offer the highest quality service to our clients and share our knowledge and experience., iIn particular the lessons learned from analysis of operational projects are applied to continually improve our pre-construction predictions.

The available roles require strong numerical ability, good technical judgement and typically include the following tasks:

  • Site visits to assess wind and solar measurements, terrain and ground cover

  • Analysis and interpretation of measured wind data, solar data, or turbine SCADA data

  • Analysis of long-term trends using reference meteorological data

  • Modelling of wind flow over wind farm sites using a range of models, such as RANS CFD and mesoscale

  • Calculation of long-term energy yield, including consideration of energy yield losses such as wake effects and turbine performance losses for wind farms, or irradiance and degradation losses for solar farms

  • Written and verbal communication of complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Effective teamwork in order to deliver projects on time and to budget

As a global, independent and leading renewables consultancy, K2 Management is committed to delivering high quality and accurate analyses, so research and development is a critical aspect of our work. In addition to core consultancy work, every member of staff is encouraged to contribute to R&D projects to improve the understanding of wind and solar analysis and to ensure we are pushing forward the cutting edge of the industry. As a small and flexible team, we are able to account for individuals’ areas of interest to tailor R&D projects, encouraging innovation and project ownership. Recent R&D projects have included industry-leading studies into real-world turbine performance and the largest published validation of offshore wind farm energy yield assessment.

Our working environment is highly flexible, allowing junior staff immediate opportunity to work closely with experienced senior staff on front-line projects. Opportunities for travel to overseas K2M offices are available. Full training and support will be provided, with opportunities to take on project management, team leadership and technical responsibility as experience and skills progress.

  • A-Level or equivalent in Maths with grade A or higher

  • Excellent communication and reporting skills

  • The flexibility and enthusiasm to thrive in an expanding business

  • Strong interest in renewable energy

Desirable Criteria:

  • Relevant previous work experience or education

  • Advanced computing aptitude, including data handling and analysis

  • Academic background that includes fluid dynamics

  • Experience of computer programming, particularly Python
