Wallscourt Fellowships are an innovative and exciting opportunity for exceptional individuals to focus on a combination of research and the delivery of teaching and learning. These roles are relate to UWE Bristol’s Beacon Research Themes, aligned with the priorities of UK Research and Innovation, the Government’s Industrial Strategy and the University’s current strengths and ambition. These roles are part-funded by the Wallscourt Foundation, a charitable foundation with historic links to UWE Bristol, along with investment by the University in line with its Strategy 2030. 

Your time will be split 50:50 between research, and teaching and learning for an initial period of three years.  These are, however, permanent academic positions and you will continue after this initial period as a full member of the academic staff of UWE Bristol with duties as determined within your Department – we would anticipate that you will develop your capacity to secure external research funding and there will also be the opportunity to bid for internally-funded time for research as part of you continuing portfolio of activities.

This is an exciting time for Department of Engineering Design and Mathematics (EDM). In Sept 2020, we will move into our new £45 million purpose built Engineering facility, which will enhance our ability to deliver an innovative and exciting problem-based learning curriculum and strengthen our stakeholder engagement activity regionally, nationally and internationally. 

UWE Bristol is also home to Bristol Robotics Laboratory, the leading and largest academic centre for multi-disciplinary robotics research in the UK. It is a collaborative partnership between the University of the West of England (UWE, Bristol) and the University of Bristol, and home to a vibrant community of over 200 academics, researchers and industry practitioners, which lead current thinking in service robotics, intelligent autonomous systems and bio-engineering.

We are looking for an outstanding researcher in Digital Manufacturing to contribute to research in this key subject field. The successful candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment in advanced manufacturing technologies and will be expected to lead research and teaching in the area of Industry 4.0 in line with the UK Government Industrial Strategy. UWE Bristol has ambitions to become a leading authority in helping develop UK manufacturing by connecting emerging and smart technologies, such as robotics and automation, to enable an industrial digital transformation.   The role holder will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Computer Science Research Centre housing world-class expertise in AI, particularly evolutionary computing, and the Engineering Modelling and Simulation (EMS) research group, a vibrant and dynamic team comprising over 20 academic members and 20 PhD students.
