Applications are now invited from suitably qualified candidates for a University Assistant/Associate Professorship. The particular specialty of the appointee is not prescribed, but is expected to lie in the broad area of Fluids-Structure Interaction (FSI) as applicable to Aerospace, Civil Engineering or Biomedical Engineering.

The appointee will be based in the Fluid Dynamics Group of the Department of Engineering. The group has a long-established reputation for experimental, computational and theoretical research in fluid mechanics across a wide range of application areas from Aerospace, civil engineering, environment to healthcare. It possesses state-of-the-art shared laboratories and facilities and collaborates widely across Engineering, the University and elsewhere. The successful candidate should establish an independent theme within the broad area of FSI, as well as collaborating with others in related fields, especially with colleagues performing research in civil engineering/structures and the rapidly growing bioengineering activity across the Department.

The duties of the post mainly concern research and teaching, and research activity is expected to account for 60% of time whereas teaching and administration is expected to account for 40% of time. For research, the primary requirement will be to develop a record of world-class research commensurate with the Department’s international reputation. The successful candidates will play a full part in ensuring that the Department maintains its top-rank research rating. Responsibilities will include teaching within fluid dynamics and mechanics throughout the four-year Engineering Tripos and at post-graduate level.

The successful candidate will be based at the Department of Engineering’s Trumpington Street site in Central Cambridge. The appointment will be for a probationary period of five years and, subject to satisfactory performance, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter.
