Senior Manufacturing Technician

Full Time

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £35,328 - £42,701 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The UCL Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment is the UK’s largest and leading multidisciplinary Faculty of the Built Environment, covering architecture, construction and project management, planning and environmental design and other specialist fields.

The Bartlett School of Architecture is one of the world's most exciting architecture schools, in one of its most inspiring cities. In recent years we have been ranked UK’s No1 department for architectural research (RAE 2008 and REF 2014) and consistently voted the UK’s top school of architecture by the Guardian University League Tables.

The Bartlett Manufacturing and Design Exchange, B-made, the making and production hub within the Bartlett School of Architecture, is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Technician to offer technical fluency and excellence across analogue craft disciplines and CAD/CAM technologies, across both the Bartlett’s Bloomsbury facility as well as the facility at UCL Here East.

The post holder will be expected to work closely and interchangeably with the team of staff and Teaching Fellows based at both B-made workshop sites at the Bartlett’s UCL Bloomsbury facility and at UCL Here East facility and must be able to travel to both sites.

The Senior Manufacturing Technician will provide day-to-day supervision and workshop coverage in the analogue and numerical manufacturing workshops. The main purpose of the role will be to provide technical advice and support to academics, scientists, students, researchers and staff and ensure all activities are carried out within best practice, effectively and safely, while adhering to and developing Standard Operating Procedures. The post holder will be responsible for translating technical skills into effective and solution-driven equipment support to develop students’ projects, together with supporting novel and speculative use of manufacturing equipment.

Applicants must be qualified to degree level (or have completed a recognised apprenticeship or have equivalent experience) and demonstrate a foundation of professional technical expertise.  The successful candidate must have demonstrable skills and abilities in at least one of the ‘Analogue Manufacturing Skills’ Key Areas and in at least one of the ‘Numerical Manufacturing Skills’ Key Areas, as outlined in the Person Specification of the Job Description.  Excellent technical skills, proficiency in CAD software coupled with knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety requirements, are also essential.  In addition, the successful candidate will be committed to high quality performance and a team ethos, whilst remaining calm in a busy but rewarding environment.

All applicants are requested to read the Essential and Desirable requirements in the Person Specification (within the Job Description document) carefully, before applying.
