As a Process Technician you will be joining our Wastewater Workshop Team who play a vital part in the ensuring the smooth running of our operations sites.

The Process Technician will work as part of a larger team, who have recently secured significant investment to enable growth of this function within the organisation. The Workshop Team is a unique function that works to rebuild failing equipment from all of water and wastewater treatment works, sludge treatment centres and pumping stations to ensure all environmental, quality and customer service standards are met, whilst meeting H&S legislation and achieving budgetary targets.

You will have access to all of the required safety equipment and PPE as well as a wide variety of tools. You will also have the freedom to purchase new equipment necessary to complete any job you’re working on. The workshop team are constantly evolving, and no two days are the same which provides a challenging but rewarding opportunity. You will be able to work with new tools and equipment, on a wide variety of mechanical components with the opportunity to be involved in some precision engineering too.

You need not have a background in Water or Wastewater. We would welcome applications from candidates outside of the sector, bringing fresh perspectives and ideas. This role has a focus on mechanical engineering, an appreciation of electrical knowledge, teamwork, and problem solving. If you have a positive can-do attitude, previous experience repairing mechanical components in the Navy, Rail or Aerospace sectors, then we would love to hear from you.

You will be:
• NVQ 3/City & Guilds Mechanically Qualified or equivalent apprenticeship program to satisfy Southern Water Senior Appointed Person.
• Identifying the specification of parts, mechanical and electrical isolation of plant, lifting activities, manual handling, use of handheld and machine tools, welding, grinding, turing and milling.
• Able to understand and/or use standard equipment and tools required to undertake all job activities.
• Able to understand technical Mechanical drawings.
• A self-starter, being able to demonstrate initiative, having a positive can-do attitude and resilience to overcome challenges encountered to successfully complete the job.

Your core responsibilities will be:

• Undertaking reactive and planned maintenance of plant and equipment on a daily basis.
• Installing new plant and equipment as required
• Fault finding to identify issues, fix these or escalate if required
• Carrying out inspection and test on electrical equipment following company procedures
• Gaining quotations for parts, equipment or from contractors for work to be carried out
• Identifying possible future risks and recommend changes in the course of their day-to-day work and to raise these for resolution as required.
• Keeping up to date with new technology and approaches to ensure they can work with existing plant/equipment and are able to identify opportunities to utilise new methods/approaches in their work.

This role will be full permanent

Working pattern: Monday Wednesday 7.30 am – 4.00 pm
Thursday – Friday 7.30 am 3.00pm
1 in 6 standby

You will receive a salary of up to £ 36,733 per annum depending on skills and experience as well as other benefits including:
