Balfour Beatty VINCI are seeking a Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer to join them on HS2! You will be working with a highly experienced Major Structures team.
Balfour Beatty Vinci have commenced the full detailed design and construction of both schemes. Balfour Beatty's in-depth expertise of delivering critical major infrastructure across the world will combine and complement VINCI's global capability in high speed rail and expertise in UK rail infrastructure projects.
Preparatory works have started with main construction to commence in earnest in the second quarter of 2021. All sites will be fully compliant with UK Government guidance for safe working practices in relation to social distancing.
With this in mind we are preparing to mobilise people across Temporary Works from PC Temporary Works Coordinators to Lead Designers to Drainage Design across the Construction Industry ideally from an Infrastructure background for potential roles.
We are looking for a motivated and experienced scientist to lead our target fabrication work.
You will be expected to improve the quality of our current targets, research new methods of
fabrication and metrology and develop new techniques for future targets. The aim of this work
is to bring our targets as close as possible to the idealised targets we simulate.
Your role will have two streams of work. Firstly, working on experimental projects in coordination
with the science, design and workshop teams to deliver high quality, metrologised and
documented targets on time for experiments. Secondly, researching new methods of
fabrication, assembly and metrology in order to deliver higher quality and new types of target.
This role sits within the Experimental Physics team and will work with our target fabrication
technician. You will be expected to network and utilise your own experience and that of others
at First Light to develop new fabrication and metrology methods.
As the number of experiments, and required targets increases, you will contribute to the design
of targets, coordinate with some suppliers and aim to achieve a high standard of
documentation for each target.
Targets are typically 10 mm size objects with features and tolerances on the micron scale using
multiple materials including metals and plastics. Typically we carry out an experiment, utilising
these target, every two days.
