Exhibition: The Sacred Year 1919: women and the professions

The Sacred Year 1919 marks the centenary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act. This act enabled women to enter most professions and professional bodies for the first time. WES and Caroline Haslett feature in the displays. LSE Library, London

Electrifying Women: understanding the long history of women in engineering - PUBLIC LECTURE

Elizabeth Bruton (Science Museum) and Graeme Gooday (University of Leeds) look at how the First World War created new opportunities for women to participate, as did the exciting new technologies of electrical power and lighting a whole generation earlier. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion of how understanding the Women’s Engineering Society’s first hundred years might help to diversify recruitment to engineering today.

Minerva Scientifica – Echoes from London

Echoes from London is the first English species of Minerva Scientifica's five-star Edinburgh Festival Fringe performance commemorating triumphs and histories of Superwomen of Science through a blend of music, song and spoken word. Featuring singer and composer Frances M Lynch, it has been specially created in collaboration with Stroud Green Festival, Stroud Green Primary School and the Women’s Engineering Society, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

TDM Symposium

Travel demand management (TDM) tools and techniques have progressed over the last few decades to include new policies, technologies, vehicle and fuel types. Other soft measures have also been introduced such as raising awareness and education policies. The aim of TDM is to improve the efficiency of the transportation system and promote further use of more efficient and smarter modes of transportation. The Public transportation system and ITS are at the heart of that aim.

Women Teaching Women

Perrygrove Railway, Wales

A 'hands on' weekend designed for women of the railways, workshops, road and steam to come along, teach and promote women in what are seen as male dominated industries. 

Activities and demonstrations will include: Railway engine firing and driving; blacksmithing; classic car mechanics; road engine handling; tractor driving and much more!
