The Power of Difference in STEM
Writer, broadcaster and D&I speaker Simon Fanshawe OBE has agreed to host a Session for WES in October, exclusively for our Partners. He will give a short key note which will be followed by a practical Q&A where Partners can explore how to achieve significant change in the diversity of their staff. His approach is to frame diversity as a talent strategy to achieve the goals that your organisation, institution or team has set. The power that difference brings is to enhance the science, the research and the implementation of projects and programmes in society so that STEM affects people’s lives more positively.
He will ask you to participate by bringing issues, opportunities and possibilities where you, he and the Partners on line can contribute to finding solutions using diversity as a lens. He can promise that there will no cliches, no motherhood and apple pie and no tick-boxes! The time has past for all that. He will show, from the last ten years experience how you can significantly improve the diversity of talent you hire, how you can create meaningful inclusion in your teams and bring about change that usually only gets talked about! He will particularly draw on the partnership his company, Diversity by Design, has with Nottingham University Faculty of Engineering as part of an EPSRC project funded under the Inclusion Matters stream. The work DbD has done in that partnership has contributed to the Faculty being the only Engineering Department in the country to be awarded in May Athena Swan Gold. Simon’s will lift the fog around diversity and point your organisation in the direction of real change.
