Adriana Vargas-Colwill


Adriana is a chartered chemical engineer who has worked in the Energy Industry since 2014. She has experience in process and process safety engineering as well as in project management. Prior to energy, she worked as a product developer of lab scale equipment such as bioreactors, extraction columns, heat exchangers, etc.

Adriana joined WES in 2014 in the roles of Council member and London Cluster Coordinator. With great efforts she re-initiated the London Cluster which had been dormant for several years, and in late 2017 she successfully founded the London Cluster Committee – which today is formed by exceptional professionals, very active and passionate WES members.  Adriana has also held other roles at WES such as the Cluster Coordinator Lead, mentor for MentorSET, and has represented WES at events such as Diversity Forums, school and university events, and the Women of the World Festival in 2018. She was awarded the Gillian Skinner WES Award in 2017 for her active work as WES volunteer.

In 2019 Adriana joined the board of WES as a Trustee/Director and has led the Membership Directors’ Committee.  In this role, she is committed to supporting WES and WES members and ensuring that the Society carries out its charity purposes.

Adriana is a recognised promoter of diversity and inclusion and has had the opportunity to hold roles as volunteer for the IChemE Diversity & Inclusion Working Group and as the Chair of the Gender Parity Group at KBR, Aspire UK, from 2018 to 2019. 

In September 2020, she was awarded the Women in Leadership scholarship to study an Executive MBA at the University of Surrey – to be completed in September 2022.

Apart from WES and work, Adriana enjoys exercising and reading but mostly, spending time with husband Simon and son, Saul.
