“My role involves using technical expertise and practical experience to solve complex problems and deliver effective solutions that meet client and business needs. I work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to build positive, influential relationships and ensure that everyone has a clear understanding of objectives, constraints, and outcomes.

I focus on understanding client requirements and the wider commercial context, so that solutions are not only technically sound but also cost‑effective and aligned with organisational goals. When challenges arise, I apply creative problem‑solving skills to assess options, manage risk, and identify the most appropriate course of action.

I take responsibility for managing my time and priorities effectively, maintaining high professional and personal integrity, and delivering work to a consistent standard. I work collaboratively as part of a team, valuing different perspectives and supporting others to achieve shared outcomes.

Continuous learning and development are an important part of my role, helping me to keep my skills up to date and improve how I work. By understanding the needs and viewpoints of others, I am able to communicate clearly, adapt my approach, and contribute positively to both project delivery and team performance.”

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

A typical day is a mix of research, meetings, and putting together slides or reports. I spend time understanding the client’s problem, analyzing data, and working with my team to figure out solutions. Every day is a bit different, but it’s mostly problem-solving and teamwork

What advice would you give your 15-year-old self?

Say yes to opportunities, even the ones that feel intimidating. That’s where you learn the most.

What is your proudest work or career achievement so far?

One of my proudest achievements has been contributing to complex engineering projects where the work had a real impact. Being trusted to take on increasing responsibility, particularly in technically challenging areas, and seeing my input shape project outcomes has been very rewarding. It’s especially satisfying to know that the work supports safe, reliable solutions and has helped me grow both technically and professionally.

How does your work relate to the sustainable development goals?

“My work supports the Sustainable Development Goals by contributing to the safe, reliable delivery of low‑carbon energy. A significant focus of my role has been the development of safety cases for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), helping to demonstrate that these technologies can operate safely and robustly.

This includes evaluating how SMRs are designed to behave in the extremely unlikely event of a failure, ensuring that potential risks are understood, mitigated, and clearly justified. By strengthening confidence in nuclear safety, my work supports the long‑term viability of nuclear power as part of a sustainable energy mix.

Through this focus on safety, risk reduction, and system understanding, my work contributes to goals related to clean energy, climate action, and resilient infrastructure, helping to enable a secure and sustainable energy future.”
