With great sadness, the Women’s Engineering Society recently learned of the passing of our past president, Milada Williams, on 4 September 2024. Milada Williams was a dedicated Member of WES for many years up until her passing, and we are immensely grateful for her unwavering service and the numerous contributions she made during that time. During her service to the Society, Milada held several executive posts, such as Honorary Secretary, Vice President, and President (2011-2013); she was involved in solving governance issues, such as reviews of WES Memorandum and Articles, the organisation of events and conferences and the day to day running of the Society.
Milada had international links with academia in other countries, namely the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and with members of INWES / ICWES. She was registered as an Incorporated Engineer, a Member of the Institution of Engineering Designers, and supported the work of the UN Women UK.
Milada was awarded the Isabel Hardwich Medal in 2017, recognizing her outstanding and sustained contributions to the Women’s Engineering Society over many years, a testament to her lifelong dedication to WES.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends.
