Graduate - Instrument & Protective Systems Engineering

Employer: BP
Job closing date
Safety Instrumented Systems consists of an engineered set of hardware and software controls that are used on critical process systems. These systems are essential to the safe and reliable operation of production facilities. The energy supplies of whole countries often depend on these facilities, which in turn depend on the Safety Instrumented Systems.

Our priority on safe, reliable operations means that I&PS is integral to safeguarding our processes and plants, safely shutting down our facilities if they deviate from a strict operating envelope. Additionally, they incorporate measurement systems that provide process and production data acquisition for control, optimization and allocation of production revenue.

Facilities include offshore oil and gas production platforms, petrochemical complexes and transportation systems. In many cases, the instrument, protection and measurement systems are the basis for meeting international standards, safety cases and in-country revenue and taxation regulations. They are tied directly to our licence to operate.

Technology constantly changes in the I&PS world and engineers are always reviewing and implementing innovations in a variety of areas (e.g. topsides or increasingly sophisticated subsea metering, fire and gas detection, composition analysers, etc). It is challenging but exciting to keep pace with the changes.

The precise nature of your role will be determined by your skills as well as the needs of the business but your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Working on projects and supporting your team to find the best solutions
  • Helping to maintain performance within your team and for BP as a company
  • Building relationships both within BP and with our external partners, collaborating across functions, segments and teams to deliver great work
  • Demonstrating drive and commitment through the BP values with an emphasis on safety.

To apply for this role, you’ll need a master’s degree in biomedical engineering, chemical/process engineering, control engineering, electrical & electronic engineering, electronic engineering, instrument & control engineering, mechanical engineering, offshore engineering or petroleum engineering.

We support all of our engineering graduates to become chartered engineers. Therefore, in order to be eligible for this role, your degree must be accredited to MEng level.
