|Safety Instrumented Systems consists of an engineered set of hardware and software controls that are used on critical process systems. These systems are essential to the safe and reliable operation of production facilities. The energy supplies of whole countries often depend on these facilities, which in turn depend on the Safety Instrumented Systems.
Our priority on safe, reliable operations means that I&PS is integral to safeguarding our processes and plants, safely shutting down our facilities if they deviate from a strict operating envelope. Additionally, they incorporate measurement systems that provide process and production data acquisition for control, optimization and allocation of production revenue.
Facilities include offshore oil and gas production platforms, petrochemical complexes and transportation systems. In many cases, the instrument, protection and measurement systems are the basis for meeting international standards, safety cases and in-country revenue and taxation regulations. They are tied directly to our licence to operate.
Technology constantly changes in the I&PS world and engineers are always reviewing and implementing innovations in a variety of areas (e.g. topsides or increasingly sophisticated subsea metering, fire and gas detection, composition analysers, etc). It is challenging but exciting to keep pace with the changes.
