Kirsty started out her career in 2006 commencing an apprenticeship in Welding and Fabrication. In 2012 she joined National Grid on an Engineer Training Programme whereby she completed her Foundation Degree in Power Engineering. Kirsty is developing her career further, continuing with part time study; undertaking an MSc in Welding Engineering.
Kirsty says; “I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to study part time whilst building over 10 years of experience in the manufacturing and energy industry, both these industries are still faced with the issues of aging work forces and quite a large skills gap. I’m enjoying learning and working alongside these experienced engineers, as well as breaking down gender stereotypes along the way.” Kirsty is currently a Project Engineer, working on a number of innovation projects within Gas Transmission for National Grid.
