Hind is a new member of Council who is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Bristol University.
She has a degree in Physics from Algiers University and a Doctorat 3eme cycle from France from ENSMA Poitiers.
She has been in Bristol since 1988, first as a visiting lecturer, and then took a PhD in 1993, followed by a 2 year ‘Research Assistant post. During her research assistantship time, she obtained a Science and Technology Agency (STA) and Royal Society Fellowship to Japan to work at the Building Research Institute in Tsukuba on characteristics of aerated lightweight concrete and other building materials.

She was the first of two women lecturers in 1996 in Mechanical Engineering at Bristol but remain the only female lecturer. She is the Director of Studies Abroad and the Equal opportunity and Disability adviser in her department. She has been very active at departmental, faculty and university levels, working with groups dealing with minority issues and international affairs. She is member of the SWAN Charter Implementation Group.

Her main research interests are: thermofluid characteristics of Building materials, refrigeration (adsorption-solar), water management and ‘basic purification’, heat and humidity measurements, and more recently the phenomena of ‘slugging’ in oil pipelines.

Her other interests are card games (French belote), Bridge, and costume jewelry collection (mainly brooches and earrings).
