Fiona is a Graduate Manufacturing Engineer working for G’s Fresh, one of the largest fresh produce manufacturers in the UK. Fiona studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham and completed an industrial placement year with Pfizer during her degree. Since graduation in 2013, she has gained a rounded picture of manufacturing spending time in the automotive and FMCG industries working for multinational organizations including Heineken and Benteler Automotive in process engineering capacities.
Initially, Fiona joined WES as a student and attended a student conference in 2011. However, after interacting with WES at the Young Women Engineer awards event in late 2015, she was encouraged to become a WES council member. This came to fruition in January 2016. Being a WES council member has been both confidence building and rewarding. It has provided public speaking opportunities such as her talk at the NECR in Birmingham. Fiona wants to ensure many more women are aware of engineering and its requirements as a career choice and uses both her role as WES council member and STEM Ambassador to do so. In addition to public speaking, she attends outreach events to inspire the younger generation. She is also member of professional engineering bodies the IChemE and IET.
