Honorary Secretary

Alexandra Walker BEng (Hons), MSc, MSt

Alexandra Walker has worked for Ford Motor Company since she graduated with her first degree in 1989. During this time she has moved up through the corporate ladder crossing functions from Manufacturing to Product Development back to Manufacturing, found time to take a further two degrees, evolved Ford's Women's Engineering Panel into Engineers for the Next Generation, a volunteer group which works to promote engineering as a career to young women and men, provided mentoring for a large number of younger engineers (she still likes to pretend to herself that she's youngish), become an active Sponsor Governor at Chelmsford County High School for Girls and joined WES Council.

Having returned to work full-time in February 2008, after twelve months Maternity Leave following the birth of her second son, Alex is currently in a much more strategic role than she has done previously and one which she is thoroughly enjoying. She is learning to juggle her work-life balance and although finding that at times life can be a little busy, is rather proud that her elder son thinks that all mummies make engines just like his!

Alex is very passionate about helping people understand what being an engineer really involves - she is keen to dispel the image of oily rags and greasy spanners and instead replace it with a vision more in keeping with the 21st Century.
